Seahorses Lost in Space

posted 2 Nov 2016, 09:36 by Philippa Dancey

Seahorses have had a really good start to the new term. We have learnt about the history of halloween and where it all started. We now know that Halloween used to be called All Hallows Eve and was initially celebrated as a harvest festival. People used to dress up as ghosts and ghouls to scare off ghosts that they believed wandered the streets. The giving of sweets began when people left treats outside their houses to give to spirits which they believed would stop them entering their house. We decided to make some paper pumpkins / Jacko lanterns which would have traditionally been left out to guide Jack, a man who used to lay tricks on people.

We have started to become creative with our new topic, Lost in Space. We have looked at  Google Earth and navigated our way around to find where we live. We then zoomed right into outer space and started looking at the planets in our Solar System. We have begun to make a planet each out of balloons and paper mache which we will use to decorate our classroom.
