Year 3 and 4 Tag Rugby Competition

On Tuesday 17th June, eight year 3 and 4 children took part in a tag rugby league competition organised by The University of Gloucestershire All Golds rugby league team.  The children first had 6 training sessions leading up to the competition. For some of our children this was the only rugby training they have ever had!

The children were placed in a group with five other schools with each game lasting 8 minutes long. Although we lost four games and drew one, the children had a fun time and learnt a great deal of how to play tag rugby league with the adults being really proud of the children. Our top try scorer was Cameron Parry with four, Lee Davies-Smith with two tries and Dillano Pennant with one try.

A big thank you must go to our coaches Ed and Sam from University of Gloucesteshire All Golds Rugby League team for all their hard work.

The World Cup

Willow has had a fun filled end to the year! Our topic this term has been The World Cup! The children have had a great time making World Cup trophies in D&T and learning about different countries, participating in the World Cup, in Geography. They had fun interviewing Mrs Weeks, finding out about German food, landmarks and climate! Furthermore, the class have been finding out about the importance of keeping healthy in Science and what foods we, and footballers, should be eating and why they are so important. In Literacy the children have produced fantastic stories based on the World Cup, coming up with some unusual dilemmas and resolutions which I have enjoyed reading!

The summer fair was a big hit and Willow hosted a ‘What’s in the Sock’ stall. Contents of the socks ranged from custard to ** with prizes to be won for those who correctly guessed the most socks!

Willow Rationing and Baking

As part of our WW2 theme we visited Sainsburys to buy the exact quantity of ingredients that corresponded to a week's rations during WW2!

We then made a cake following a 1940's recipe - it had no eggs in it!

All pupils tasted the cake and filled in a questionnaire about their thoughts on the taste - some of the photos show their thoughts!
