Summer Fun Day at the Ridge Academy

posted 11 Jul 2017, 04:03 by Philippa Dancey

Huge thanks to the Big Lottery Celebrate funding for supporting our wonderful Summer Fun Day.  This year the sun shone and it was hot, hot, hot but that made the day even more special for all who attended.  We have families from the local community, parents and friends of our own pupils, the police, the fire brigade, Cheltenham football academy and more at the event.  With bouncy slide, castle and sumo suits, an ice cream van and stalls run by each classroom there was plenty for everyone to do.

Last week we had the Official Opening of our New Sensory Room. Many thanks to Alex Chalk for coming to open it along with representatives from the Wooden Spoon Charity who kindly donated the money for this. It is a great space that the children will appreciate over many years!

Mr Shaw's visit to Nepal

posted 26 May 2017, 00:59 by Philippa Dancey

Thank you kindly to all parents and carers who donated and supported the Nepal Orphanage I visited at Easter.  We raised over £260 in total which was given to the centre and some of this was used to buy flooring for the Children's bedrooms and playroom.  The remainder is to be used to support the running of the Orphanage as they do not receive government funding.

My daughter and I had the most amazing experience and everyone was so friendly and kind even though they have nothing.

It would be amazing if we could raise enough money to do an exchange with the Children.

Fundraising for Nepal Orphanage

posted 14 Apr 2017, 02:19 by Philippa Dancey

It was great to see so many parents attend our Easter Eggstravaganza yesterday and I hope that everyone had a cracking time. The children did themselves proud by singing well in front of a large audience and some children even managed to complete a reading. The jokes told by Gabriel were 'eggcellent'!

After the concert we held an Easter Fair to raise money for a member of staff to take to Nepal to support some children who live in an orphanage. The donations received by parents, carers, friends and staff were so generous and we managed to raise £260 for these extremely disadvantaged children.

Red Nose Day - March 2017

posted 25 Mar 2017, 10:32 by Philippa Dancey

Today The Ridge Academy celebrated Red Nose Day and held a range of activities in school to help raise money for Comic Relief. All children and staff came into school wearing either red or with crazy hair. We had some fantastic looking people who all donated £1 for this. We also held a cake sale in the afternoon and lots of the children took home sponsor forms and raised money for completing a sponsored smile throughout the day.

After counting the money from this and the staff sweepstake, I am really pleased to announce that we have raised a huge £236.02 which will all go to Comic Relief to help people less fortunate than ourselves.

I would like to say a huge thank you to all the children, parents, carers, grandparents, friends and staff who helped raise and donate money and cakes to make this all possible. We are all really proud!

Active Kids Sainsburys

posted 10 Mar 2017, 09:18 by Philippa Dancey

Come on team The Ridge Primary School, let's get collecting

Active Kids 2017 is now well underway. Don't forget that every voucher counts, so make sure you get your community involved in your collection. Together, we can help provide The Ridge primary School with cooking and sports equipment, and experiences to help your kids move well, eat well and live well.

Drumming up support is really easy. Here are a few handy tips to help you spread the word:

Get the kids involved. Remind your students to ask their family, friends and neighbours for their support, and to collect vouchers when they shop at Sainsbury's.

Create a bit of healthy competition. Get the classes in your school to compete against each other - see who can collect the most vouchers.

Make the most of your Digital Toolkit. Encourage your online community to get collecting for your school and share your progress on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Download the Digital Toolkit here. And don't forget to remind parents that they have their very own Digital Toolkit too.

Don't forget the deadline. Remind everyone that vouchers can only be collected until 2 May from Sainsbury's.

Let's work together to get as many vouchers as possible for The Ridge primary School and help your kids lead healthier lives in 2017.

Thanks,
The Active Kids team

Mr Shaw is going to Nepal

posted 10 Mar 2017, 09:13 by Philippa Dancey   [ updated 10 Mar 2017, 09:19 ]

During the Easter Holidays Mr Shaw is going to Nepal with his 12 year old daughter to do some  volunteering in a Children's orphanage where the Children are unable to stay with their parents due to Poverty, Neglect and family Bereavement. He is hoping to be able to raise some money to take to the Orphanage. The orphanage has also asked for any children's clothes that people can spare.  If you would like to donate any funds or clothing to this great cause, please speak to Reception.   Details of the orphanage can be found here: Save an orphan life
