Cheltenham Small Schools Football League and Albert Dix Football Tournament

posted 22 Nov 2014, 04:23 by Philippa Dancey

On Monday 6th October 2014 saw The Ridge Academy first ever football match against Oakwood Primary School in the Cheltenham Small Schools Football League.

Team Sheet: Jacob Eade, Bradley Adair, Cameron Davies, Jaheim Thompson, Peter Beattie, Tyler Lewis, Tom Matthews and Dillano Pennant.

Score: Oakwood 15 – The Ridge Academy 1

It has to be said that the score line certainly doesn’t reflect the amount of effort and determination shown by the Ridge Team. They never gave up and were always battling for the ball.

Oakwood are a very organised team with some very gifted players. But, were had some stand out performance also, with Bradley Adair and Cameron Davies taking control in defence and clearing the ball at every opportunity. Jacob Eade stepping into goal for the first ever time did a fab job and stopped many more goals from going in. Dillano Pennant has many awesome attacking little runs into Oakwood’s box. Tom Matthews for scoring our goal, Tyler Lewis and Peter Beattie never stopped running up and down the pitch and Jahiem Thompson who never gave up, never let his chin go down, kept encouraging the rest of the team and put in some crunching tackles.

Albert Dix Football Tournament

On Friday 17th October we took part in the Albert Dix Tournament which took place at All Saints Academy. The tournament is played each year with all the primary schools split up into groups. Once all the group stage matches have been played the winners of each group go through to the knock out stage with the overall winners progressing into the county competition.

Sadly we didn’t make it that far this time but yet again the boys played their socks off and put in a huge amount of effort.

In the first game we played against Hester’s Way with the final score being 0 – 3 to them. In the second game went up against Gardeners Lane with again the final score being 0 – 3 to the opposition. In the final game we played against Tirlebrook with the final score being 0 – 5 to the opposition.
